We’re thrilled to kick off this year’s Names, Not Numbers Holocaust Education Program at FYHS. The opening session set an inspiring tone as Rabbi Aaron Leibtag, FYHS Principal, introduced the program and its mission. Students heard a special video message from program founder Tova Rosenberg and watched a moving interview with Holocaust Survivor Dr. Moshe Avital. They also participated in an engaging workshop led by Regine Schlesinger, WBBM 780 reporter and proud Yeshiva grandmother, who guided them through interview techniques and sensitivities.
In preparation for the project, students participated in a mobile VR experience made possible by the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. Through this immersive technology, they were able to tour concentration camps and hear powerful stories of survival from various survivors.
Over the coming months, our seniors will delve into Holocaust studies with Rabbi Daniel Kanter, conducting research and interviewing survivors as they help preserve firsthand testimony for future generations. We look forward to sharing more updates as the students continue this important work.
