With great sorrow, HTC mourns the loss of alumnus and Torah giant, HaRav Nachum Pavlov ZT"L (HTC '64), brother of Yeshiva alumni, Rav Yosef Pavlov (HTC ’65), Dr. Moshe Pavlov (HTC ‘71), R' Ezriel Pavlov and Rebbetzin Chana Perlman.

Rav Pavlov was the distinguished Rav of Zichron Shlomo in Romema-Mattesdorf and Rosh Kollel and Rav of Kehilas Ori Chaim in Ashkelon.

Originally from Marshalltown, IA, and the nephew of the late Rabbi Dr. Joseph Babad Z”TL, HTC’s Dean of Students, Rav Pavlov learned in HTC’s high school and before graduation, transferred to Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, NJ under Rav Shneur Kotler ZT"L. He continued his learning in Israel at the Brisk Yeshiva, where he became a close talmid of the Rosh Yeshiva, HaGaon Rabbi Yosef Dov (Reb Berel) Soloveitchik ZT"L. Over the years, he established the Ori Chaim community in Ashkelon, where he strengthened the local community and founded an important kollel that drew talmidei chachamim from across the country.

Around the age of fifty, he encountered the teachings of HaRav Shmuel Auerbach ZT"L, and despite already being a seasoned rebbe and talmid chacham in his own right, he attached himself to the Rosh Yeshiva with the devotion of a young student. For nearly fifteen years, he labored in the Ma'alos HaTorah Yeshiva in Yerushalayim and diligently attended all of the Rosh Yeshiva’s shiurim.  Rav Nachum used to say that he hoped he wouldn’t lose his reward in the World to Come for the sweetness and pleasure he experienced in learning Rav Shmuel's Torah.

In Ashkelon, Rabbi Pavlov became a prominent Rav and figure, frequently attending major events at the Yeshiva L’Tzeirim in the city, headed by HaGaon Rabbi Shmuel Alpha, where he often delivered passionate speeches and drashos.

He was widely known as a towering Torah scholar who inspired both Torah and yiras shamayim. He was meticulous in mitzvah observance, particularly known for his beautiful fulfillment of the mitzvah of Arba Minim on Sukkos and for participating in matzah baking on Erev Pesach with a group of devoted chevre.
